Day #2 ~ Getting Organized Challenge (The Computer Desk)

January 3, 2011
Before we start today’s challenge, I want to take a minute to thank everyone who took advantage of the Shaklee special in December.  So many of you ordered!  Thats awesome! I would love to see you using your Shaklee products during our challenges.

The Get Clean Starter Kit

Now on to today’s post:

Welcome to day #2 of 21 days to getting organized!  Im so glad you made it through the first day. You all rocked the first challenge! So much participation. Wow!  Doesn’t it feel good to have your junk drawers clean and organized? Just wait until day 21, you will be feeling FABULOUS (and your spouses may love you more too-or maybe they will love me for showing you what you can accomplish)! By seeing the amount of participation here, I can tell so many of you are desperate to get your lives organized. Im just so thankful to be the one to help you do it!

You are all an inspiration to me. Im learning so many new tips. I hope others are getting inspired as well. Make sure you are checking out the other blogs that are participating (and join each others’ blogs. I hope you have all joined my blog). I have visited each of your blogs & challenges. You’re doing great.  Keep focused.  You can do this!

Now on to business…

Challenge #2 – Your computer desk (top only)

Today my challenge is for you to clear off, clean up, and organize the top of your computer desk… or whatever desk you have. If your computer isn’t on a desk, than clear off the area where it lives. If your desk is already cleaned & organized… find another surface.  No matter what, keep organizing.  It takes 21 days to form a habit. Im training you to become an organized person!  πŸ˜‰

1.  Take a picture of the area.

2. Completely remove everything from the surface. (This challenge is only for the top of the desk).

3.. Now, get your cleaners or polish (of course, I recommend Shaklee) and start scrubbing or dusting it off. I want it to shine!

4. Get your three bins (keep, toss, and donate) & start separating.  This task may seem daunting to those who love the paper clutter! I want you to go through every piece of paper.  If you don’t need it, toss it! You dont need to keep utility bills that you paid 6 months ago or 6 weeks ago! Bye bye clutter.

5. You finally have everything separated. Now you can put it all where it goes. If it doesnt go on the desk, please don’t put it there.  Remember we are only concentrating on the desk top today. Once your desk is cleared of the clutter, you will feel so much better while you are there. Try your best to keep this area clean.  You spend a lot of time here (if you’re a blogger).

6.  If you have them, use as many organizing tools as you can. I purchased some drawers to put all of my office supplies in.  And, use your labeler. Its so easy to find what I need.

7.  Your finished!  Now, get the camera and take a picture of your hard work & come back here to this post and share. Way to go!

Here is my computer desk before the organization & cleaning took place.

I try  my best to keep this area clean at all times.

After I cleared off the desk, I sprayed it down with Basic H and polished it.

Look at it shine!

I purchased these drawer organizers at Big Lots for under $5.00.

They hold so much stuff.

I love to have fresh smelling sharpened pencils within reach!

A mail sorter is great to keep on top of your bills too!

The final shot!

I can’t wait to see all of your desks!

Hey Toni, I redid my nasty desk a couple weeks ago, and used the same green contact paper you have in your drawers, lol. My desk is still clean, and I have taken the weekend off, lol, so tomorrow I have three days to catch on, BUT, I am totally looking forward to getting organized. I like how SO FAR everything has been pretty manageable, and relatively quick. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us girl.

Thanks again for a GREAT challenge, and party. I have blogged about your challenge today. Come see!!!

Also for a chance to win THREE FREE months of advertising on my blog, come enter my giveaway.

That looks great. I love the mail organiser. I could really do with one of those and it might be a good place to store the endless letters that keep coming home from school.Must keep my eyes peeled. Out of curiosity is the Shaklee available in the UK? I must admit i have been involved in alot of these work from home companies. Usborne, Forever Living, Avon so i held back from yesterdays post although it did leap out at me πŸ™‚

  3. Oh my!! Wait until you see my desk….it’s a mess!

I never thought I could clear off my desk in a day. It had several large piles of paper on it and lots of dust. In the process of getting started I realized that I had been mixing my “action” papers with my “to file” papers, so I sorted according to those categories and found homes for all of my action papers in my paper sorter that sits on my desk. I also resurrected a bill sorter and will start using it daily to keep track of date sensitive items. Amazingly, not only did I clear the top of my desk, but a couple of piles that had “slid” onto the floor. I need to finish up a couple of piles of sorting, and I have a big box of filing to do, so I think I’ll finish those before I move on to challenge 3. I have a blog, but it is not at all about organizing, so I am not posting photos here…but if anyone ever needed to get organized, it’s me. I’m hoping this will make a big dent in three years worth of trying to just get through it. I want to be productive again!

  19. Bella says:

  27. Awesome information! When you think of the word ergonomic when used in regards to computer desks, one of the first things that probably comes to mind is a cushy mouse pad that’s used to support the wrist while you maneuver the mouse around your desk top.
