Day #4 ~ Getting Organized Challenge (The Linen Closet)

January 5, 2011
Day #4 Challenge (The Linen Closet)

Today we are organizing the linen closet.  This will also be a day of purging. (I know you don’t use everything in that closet!) I cant wait to see all of your before pictures, becuause I know what mine looked like and it wasn’t pretty!! If you don’t have a linen closet, you can organize the area where you keep your bedding stored. So…

Here’s the challenge

1. Take your before picture!
2. Yank EVERYTHING out of there… I mean everything.
3. Now, sweep or vaccuum the floor & wipe down the shelving.
4. Get all of your boxes (keep, toss, donate) & start sorting.
5. If you have baskets and bins, this is a great place to use them. Place your bins/baskets on the shelving and start organizing.
6. Categorize everything. ie. Twin, full, queen, king, pillowcases, handtowels, washcloths, etc… Remember to only keep what you USE!  I only kept 2 sets of sheets for each bed.
7. Is your donation box getting full yet?? Remember at the end of this week we will take all donations to goodwill or store them for your spring garage sale.
8. Your finished!!  Now take your after picture and get your tush back here to show us your pretty linen closet.

Here are my linen closet challenge pictures.  I completed this challenge last month and its still clean. YAY!

I took (almost) everything out and vacuumed the floor.

I have an attraction to quilts, pottery barn & shabby chic bedding.

All nice & neatly organized.

This is what will go in my annual garage sale, in the spring.  There is a ton of pottery barn bedding, etc. My 12 year old said this evening.. “Pretty soon, we are not going to have anything left!”  (I think she may be right).

Doesn’t it look pretty now?

I only kept 2 extra sets of sheets per bed.  Thats a good rule of thumb.

I still have my 12 year olds Lizzy Mcguire suitcase. My 3 year old uses it now.

One more time…
Before
and
After

This only took me 1 hour to complete.  If I can do it, you can do it!

I love that owl. Is it a sleeping bag? So cute! I wish I could come to your garage sale I love Pottery Barn and Shabby Chic bedding too;-) We don’t have a linen closet–yours looks great, by the way;-)–so everyone just has a spot in their closet for their bedding. I will clean out our towel cupboard. It will be quite the challenge since two drawers are broken, and . . .well, you will have to check out my blog to see what and how involved this becomes. Guess I’m thankful for this task since it’s been put off and not dealt with for a l-o-n-g time. . .well, I’ll be thankful tonight anyway;-)

  14. Hey Toni, thanks for popping over to my blog AND becoming a follower. I am totally honored.

I had to take a little break to finish a couple of other “urgent” organizational projects, but I am back on track! Thanks for the lovely inspiration. I love the peace that is coming over my house by doing your challenge, and how easy it has been to maintain over the past couple of weeks! Thank you.
