5 things to clean this fall

September 1, 2019

After Labor Day, it’s time to start thinking about Fall cleaning. Here are 5 things that I always clean, once football season begins. Be sure to check out this blog post, to print out my detailed Fall Freshen Up check list.

  1. The front porch. Once cooler weather hits, we tend to forget about the porch until spring. Take a half-hour this weekend to give your porch some attention. Quickly sweep or leaf blow, shake out the welcome mat, and clean the door and windows. In no time, it’ll be ready for pumpkins and scarecrows.
  2. Patio furniture. It’s time to store your patio furniture to protect it from the elements of winter. Before you store it, give it a good cleaning and cover it with designated outdoor furniture covers to protect it from harsh weather. This will extend the life, giving you many more years to enjoy it. Tip: Fill a bucket with hot water & Mrs. Meyers Fall scented Pumpkin Spice dish soap and scrub the furniture using a Grove walnut scrubber sponge. It gets me in the cleaning mood every time!
  3. Winter wear. It’s time to pull out those winter coats, hats, scarves, and mittens. If you didn’t get a chance to clean them before you stored them, get a head start now. Wash everything according to their label and store in your hall closet or mudroom. The cooler weather is soon to come. Be ahead of the game.
  4. Winter blankets, sheets, and throws. Football season is our sign that it’s time to swap our summer bedding for warmer blankets & flannel sheets. Now is a great time to launder everything that has been stored. Don’t forget to wash the mattress pads & pillows.
  5. The Pantry. Once school begins, we’re all back to hectic schedules, dance lessons, and school sports. The pantry needs to be organized & stocked in preparation for this busy time. Remove everything, spray down the shelves using Mrs. Meyers Multi-surface Pumpkin Spice cleaner & wipe clean, toss expired food, take inventory of things that need replenished, and re-organize the shelves. Tip: Place school lunch items at eye level for the kids, so they can pack their own lunch boxes.
