Day #11 ~ Getting Organized Challenge (The FREEZER)

January 13, 2011

Before we get into today’s challenge, I wanted to share an email I received from a fan of my blog. This email is why I do what I do!

                         Hi Toni,

I just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying your challenge.  I found your blog through a post on Ali Edward’s site.  A participant in her “one little word” community was doing your challenge, and offered the link.  I feel so fortunate to have found it.

Being organized is a constant battle for me.  Your challenge offers (mostly) short, directed, do-able projects.  Since I was 5 days behind when I found it, I doubled or tripled up some days to catch up.  Thanks to some prior organizing/purging in the first days of January, my laundry room was already done – and I have to say, that made a world of difference for me.  It feels so good to be able to breathe in a space, and to feel calm, not chaos.  I only have the toy challenge to complete to be caught up, but that is the most daunting, because that is an area that is always a mess.  Hopefully we can dig deep, purge, and enjoy the benefit of “less is more.”

Thank you for this slow-but-steady approach to getting an organized, peaceful home.  Having a specific challenge each day is so helpful.   In the end, we will all win the race, and be so much better off for it.

I was wondering if you are still offering free shipping for new Shaklee products – I’d like to try a few.

Thanks so much!  Your blog is a new favorite!
Kris

Kris, Thank YOU for participating in the challenge. I’m glad I can be a help to everyone who is trying to organize their lives. I love getting emails like these.  I read every one and take it all to heart.  Im just happy to be able to bring everyone together through blogging, to share ideas and inspire each other!

Today will be one of those…. ugh days!  The freezer isn’t the first thing we think about when we get excited to organize right?  BUT… once you organize it, you will be so happy!  I was.

So, take your picture… pull everything out (and throw away the old freezer burnt blocks of ice-I mean food), and start scrubbing.  Then put it all back in a pretty, organized, categorized fashion. I used some bins from the dollar store.  They worked perfectly. Now all we have to do is just pull the bin out to get what we want. Its much easier to find the things we want, fast!  :)

I will give you a hint for tomorrow’s challenge.  Its a cabinet and it contains stuff to make our food yummy when we cook!

Happy Organizing.  I can’t wait to see your freezers!

Here is mine…

It hasn’t been cleaned out and organized in at least 6 months.

Sorry abou the horrible pictures.

I didn’t even know what was in there. So, I thought baskets would be perfect for us. These were $1.00 from the Dollar Tree!

The baskets & drawers are categorized into like items:

1. Nuts (almonds & walnuts)
2. Breads (waffles & biscuits)
3. Meats
4. Smoothie items
5. Frozen Vegetables
6.  The door holds frozen juices (not pictured)

If you stand them up, the oldest veggies should be in the front of the row.

An organized freezer will make a world of difference for you!

What do your freezers look like?  Are they as messy as mine?

I was just thinking the freezer would be my next project if you assign something that doenst need attention in my home. I just did my fridge (although i think you might assign that too) and we have to kinda dig and tetris the freezer.

    Hey Toni,
I can’t add to the linky, it says it won’t be available til tomorrow morning your time. Has it got the right date on it?

I’ve been enjoying these challenges, but have had to cut down on the postings. The only ones I haven’t done are the dresser (too personal to show), toy organization (no children at home, so no toys), laundry (will try to touch on that one soon), & the freezer (did that one a month ago). We are listing our house for sale this week, so making huge messes to clean something is out of the question. Also, anything that is not actually part of the house (like dresser drawers) is not a priority right now. I truly appreciate all the time you are putting into these challenges, and will continue to follow along even when I cannot participate.

  9. Fan-freakin-tastic! Never thought to use bins in the freezer. The next chance I get I’m gettin some and gettin it done! Thanks! This is the best challenge ever and is totally getting my house in shape!

  10. Love the veggies stacked up. We only use a half bag at a time right now but that would come in handy if we didn’t!

  11. Becky says:

Toni – I’m a basket and labeler in my freezer too! Just did my frig the other day and used my Shaklee window cleaner for the shelves – they look sparkling and amazing. Can’t believe it every time I open the frig door and it’s so bright in there. Still have to tackle the condiment area – that never ends getting yucky!

  16. Can I just say how much I adore those containers you used? I’m such a copy cat and had to get me some of the same ones and use them in my freezer. I guess you can take it as a compliment that I want my freezer to look just like yours! I’m way behind on the challenges since I just found your blog on Day 9, but you better believe I’ll be working hard to get caught up or at least do what I can. This is just what I needed to help motivate me to reclaim my house and start fresh for the new year! Thanks for all of your hard work and inspiration!

    Blessings!

  17. I use containers in my fridge, but never in my freezer. I like this idea. Thanks for posting!
