How to maximize “me time”

April 23, 2017

Before I begin, I want to thank Aveeno for helping me share this valuable information with my readers. I believe these tips are so important and can make the difference between an enjoyable day and a stressful day. Thank you Aveeno!

I am a big advocate of ‘me time’, as all women should be. We spend our days taking care of others; car pooling, grocery shopping, paying bills, cleaning, cooking, and giving all we have to show our loved ones how much they mean to us. In order for us to keep going day in and day out, we must plan some quality time for ourselves. Because if we don’t, we will eventually crash and burn. When we neglect taking time for ourselves, it shows up in other ways. We start to get irritated at our loved ones, our skin begins to show signs of distress, and our overall wellbeing is compromised. It’s been proven that self-care makes us more emotionally and physically capable of taking care of others. It’s a good thing.

It’s not complicated and everyone can incorporate a ‘moment for me’. Hopefully you can see the importance of “me time” and learn how to cultivate it into your daily routine! Here are the 3 ways I maximize “me time”.

1. Get organized! In order for you to have the time to set aside for yourself, you must be organized enough to streamline your day. Think of all the extra time you waste looking for things, cleaning up clutter, and living in chaos. Whether it’s in the bathroom or the kitchen, clutter is clutter. Stop fighting with it and eliminate it. Clear out those drawers full of junk you never use. Digging through them is a waste of time. You can find many tips in my 14 week organizing challenge on the blog. 75% of the things in your drawers simply get tossed around and never used. It’s time to let it go. Simplify!

2. Pamper Yourself! Since you took the time to get organized, you finally have time to relax in the evening. Set aside 45 minutes every night for yourself. Once you get the kids to bed, run a bubble bath (or start a hot shower), light a candle, turn on the Miles Davis channel (on Pandora), and enjoy some relaxation. I do this most evenings and it’s the best way to unwind after a long day. This is also a great time to give yourself a much needed facial. Aveeno has a fabulous product called The Positively Radiant 60 Second In-Shower Facial. It’s amazing and I’m hooked. It only takes 60 seconds 1-2 times per week to give your beautiful skin the boost that it desperately needs. I don’t have time to dedicate to complicated skin care routines and Aveeno products have helped me streamline this part of my day.

3.  Read a Good Book. I cannot stress the importance of reading. The easiest way to set aside a ‘moment for me’ is to get lost in a good book. Reading takes you to places you’ve never been before. It allows you forget your problems and worries for just a little while. It reduces anxiety, calms your thoughts, and keeps your brain healthy. I wasn’t much of a reader growing up, but as I’ve gotten older, I have fallen in love with books. Take a trip to your local library, pick up a few good books and give it a try. You might just enjoy it. A couple of good books to begin with are Choosing The Simply Luxurious Life by Shannon Ables or At Home With Madame Chic by Jennifer L. Scott. They are my favorites!

I hope you’ve gained some clarity and understanding about the importance of setting aside a ‘moment for me’ every day. Your time is valuable and your wellbeing is a vital part of giving to others. Let me know in the comment section below how you set aside “me time” every day or week. What do you enjoy? Happy Mother’s Day.

I also love Aveeno products! I relax by making greeting cards and I volunteer . I consider this as “me” time also since I usually do it on my own. I love the feeling I get from helping others.

May I recommend meditation? It can do wonders for relaxation. YouTube has some great guided meditations to check out. You can do one in as little as 5 minutes. My personal tip!
